Today, Saturday April 21st, I participated in the Mineville Community Association’s Earth Day 2012 project of roadside litter pick-up. I want to commend and applaud them for their herculean effort in this clean-up.
2012 Mineville Community Clean Up
There will be a mountain of garbage bags ( dark & clear ) full of litter and debris. Please note the dark bags were bought by the Mineville Community Association (MCA) and they were not aware of the clear bag policy of NSDoT until I advised them of permit requirements. But I can assure you and their volunteers too can attest that they all contain roadside litter. No regular household garbage is in this pile that will be at Bennett Park by Hwy#107 near Exit #18.
I have asked the organizers to source- separate the debris pile. There is a quantity of old propane tanks, paint cans and some electronics. Also there is about three dozen tires. I will ask if our friends in Goodwood will pick these up and process them in their scrap tire program.
By the way, I found a NSDoT roadside alert orange directional sign and you can reclaim that for your inventory.
The MCA has taken a few photos of their effort today and they will be posting them onto their web-site ( www.mineville.ca ) as testimonial evidence of their labours. I trust there won’t be any difficulties with the pick-up of this debris pile. As well there might be some heavier bulk items that may be left by the roadside. The MCA co-ordinaters will have them flagged and they will advise you of where they are situated. Ok ?
Once again, my congratulations and gratitude to the MCA and its citizens volunteers on a tremendous roadside clean-up campaign.
Best regards – David H
